I’ve seen the most brilliantly intelligent people, whom are highly skilled at their position, fail miserably at the job. I’ve also seen those with no-so extraordinary intellectual abilities and technical skills soar in a similar position. While personal styles of leaders vary widely, I’ve found the most effective leaders are alike in one crucial way: they all have a high degree of EQ (emotional intelligence).
While technical abilities and intellect are not irrelevant, they serve almost as “entry-level” requirements for C-level executive positions. Emotional intelligence, however, is the key I’ve found to being a successful leader.
